Looking back at the saga of the school, it is worth recalling the humble beginnings the Vidyalaya had. It was on December 30, 1968, when Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda was at Thiruvananthapuram for conducting a yajna at University Stadium, that Sri. A.S Menon, the then President of Chinmaya Mission, assigned the 51 cents of land that belonged to Balaniketan to Central Chinmaya Mission for starting a school. Swamiji wanted the foundation stone laying ceremony to be held on January 1, 1969. He had a novelty in whatever he did. In his usual style he said, “We must have a golden trowel and then auction it. That will give us the seed money for the event.” But when the difficulty of acquiring a golden trowel in such a short time was conveyed to Swamiji, he retorted, “Old are always useless, I would like to see some young guys.” He turned to his young stenographer, who was then an assistant Engineer in PWD, and asked him about the possibility of getting a silver trowel. Though he answered in the affirmative even without a moment’s thought, he realised his folly later. But nevertheless he went to the shop and had a trowel made in stainless steel. Swamiji himself wrote the inscription for the foundation stone as: Foundation stone for Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Trivandrum, laid by H. H. Swami Chinmayananda on 1st January 1969. Chinmaya Vidyalaya Vazhuthacaud started its legacy in education sector as a pre-primary school in 1969. To embark with, the school functioned in a thatched building near the present school and later the classes were shifted to the new building. Gradually the school was upgraded as a primary school in 1995, and then to High School. In the year 2002-03 the school was aggrandized to Higher Secondary level. Since then our students are adding feather after feather to our crown of glory through their excellent results and achievements.

Education requires shared goals and national policies that put learning at the center. Our vidyalaya embeds the above policies which posters the development of the child embracing Chinmaya Vision Programme and technology going hand in hand with the fast changing teaching methodology in today’s education sector, we have stepped up to hybrid teaching platform and competent and adept enough to acclimate the revolution that are yet to come in education sector.
